Science Fair

Well done to the  four children,  from year five and six,  who took part in the Ellen Wilkinson Science Fair on Wednesday 29th June 2016.

Ahmed ALi and Caiden Jaques-Merry carried out a chemistry investigation on rust, while Azka Moeen and Ramla Hade’s investigation was about the speed of falling objects.

The children, who competed against 40 other groups from primary schools around Ealing, presented their experiments on posters and then discussed the results with scientists from both industry and medical research institutions.

On Tuesday 14th June Reception visited the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. The main highlight of the trip was joining Ted the Teddy Bear on his journey through the Solar System, in search of the Great Big Bear in the Sky. The children thoroughly enjoyed the interactive planetarium show as they journeyed to the Moon, Sun and all of the other planets. Despite the wet weather a good time was had by all!

Year 6 were lucky enough to attend yet another fantastic trip, organised by all the staff to Central London.  After leaving school at about 9:30, we travelled by tube to North Greenwich where we got the Emirates Cable Car over the Thames to Docklands and back again.  Some children did not realise how high it went, but all were very brave on the Cable Car itself and enjoyed the amazing views of London from both sides. We had a great time spotting iconic buildings and trying to finP1030202d John Perryn Primary School in the distance.

After a picnic lunch, we boarded the MBNA Thames Clipper and went along the Thames, all the way from North Greenwich to Embankment. It was great seeing London from this perspective and everyone had another great day.

Next time you are out in the playground, ask a Year 6 student what special buildings and landmarks they saw.

Year 6 Trip to Chessington World of Adventures!

P1030169After a busy few months preparing and sitting their SATS, Oak and Chestnut Class were very much looking forward to their trip to Chessington where they could finally unwind, spend time with friends and try something new.  The journey to Chessington went quickly and everybody was happy to arrive.  Year 6 spent most of their day in the air or hanging upside down on the rides and loved every minute if it.  Everyone really let their hair down and enjoyed a fantastic day of fun, laughter and adrenaline!  Before long, it was time to come back to school but not before one last go on The Vampire Ride – everybody’s favourite.  A great, great day!

On Monday 20th June Year 5 went on an extra special adventure! We travelled by tube to the Embankment where we caught the River Bus (also known as a Clipper) up to Greenwich. On the river we saw many sites including: The London Eye, Big Ben, The Tower of London, The Shard, Tower Bridge, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Canary Wharf, and Greenwich itself!

After we had disembarked we made our way to the Maritime Museum, and went to the Above and Beyond exhibit that linked with our Topic on Space. Although the weather was awful the children were fantastic, and we walked through Greenwich Park up a very steep hill to ‘The Best View in London’ After we had posed for photos we went on the D.L.R (Docklands, Light Railway) which does not have a driver back to Bank where we caught our connection on the Central line to East Acton.

The children behaved themselves very well, and the adult helpers, Teachers and children had a fantastic day out. Thank you to Miss O’Brien, Miss Holmes and all the adult helpers who gave up their time to make a truly unforgettable day.
